New machine concepts based on the eXtended Transport System

Machine construction is reconceived with the eXtended Transport System (XTS): In combination with PC-based control technology, the XTS opens up new solutions for the realisation of space-saving and highly dynamic machine concepts for feeding, handling and assembly – and all of that with a minimum of components. The benefits for the user are increased production efficiency and a smaller machine footprint. Even motion applications that are extremely complex to solve from the mechanical point of view can be realised conveniently and flexibly in software with the XTS.

In traditional assembly processes the product is conveyed onwards by a transport system and must repeatedly be identified, gripped and possibly also analysed. This means enormous expenditure for mechanical systems and sensors. With XTS the product is usually picked up just once and transported through the entire process with the same mover. Accordingly, the control program always knows where the product is and in what state. XTS

Integration of 6-axis robot kinematics into a standard control platform

Various robot kinematics, from 2-D parallel kinematics, 3-D Delta and SCARA through to complex Hexapod, 5-D and serial 6-axis kinematics can be programmed with TwinCAT Kinematic Transformation. An additional robot controller and the learning of a special robot programming language can thus be dispensed with. Highly complex processes such as the interaction between the XTS and a robot are integrated seamlessly into the controller.

AX8000: The compact multi-axis servo system

With extremely short control cycles, the new AX8000 servo system for space-saving installation enables high-precision positioning and machining processes. FPGA-based control algorithms with multi-channel current control technology enable sample and response times of less than 1 s for current control, and speed control cycle times as low as 16 s. Additional benefits include fast installation and commissioning by simply plugging together axis modules as well as the direct integration of safety functions, mains filters and One Cable Technology (OCT). PC-based control: The control technology for Industry 4.0

PC-based control from Beckhoff with open hardware and software interfaces and integrated communication from the sensor right into the cloud provides the ideal basis for the networked ”Smart Factory“. All IPC, I/O, motion and automation components are fully scalable. PC-based control can already be used for seamless integration of production modules into existing and new production systems. Changes in order planning or the production process can be implemented directly in ongoing operations. TwinCAT automation software provides the necessary modularity, object orientation and integrated engineering throughout the whole lifecycle of production modules and systems.
