Ethernet as the basis for the office and building networks
In addition to data communication for
building services, high-performance
Ethernet with high transfer rates offers
sufficient reserve capacity for image and
voice data or multimedia functions. The
real-time Ethernet protocol from Beckhoff
enables cycle times in the one-digit millisecond
range.
For Ethernet TCP/IP a wide range of
Bus Coupler are available for the Bus Terminal
system. They act as slaves at a higherlevel
controller. Based on the Bus Couplers,
the Bus Terminal Controllers additionally
include an integrated control function
that is freely programmable according to
IEC 61131-3. Bus Terminal Controllers can,
for example, deal with data pre-processing
on the individual floors. This relieves the
higher-level control system from routine
tasks and reduces bus communication.
Signals for light, temperature, shade or
HVAC control are handled directly in the
controller so that if there should be a network
failure all functions affecting safety
remain intact. Central data – for example
for the specification of control set values
or security and access control data – communicate
with the TwinCAT automation
software via the Bus Coupler.
The BC9xx0 and BX9000 Bus Terminal
Controllers with Ethernet connection and
integrated control functionality are ideally
suited for use in building automation.
Optionally, these small controllers are
also available with an integrated control
library for building automation. Ethernet
has proven to be reliable worldwide as the
communication standard for data transmission
with high transmission rates in office
networks. Since Ethernet is manufacturer-independent,
no special hubs and gateways
are required. Ethernet is therefore not only
suitable for new buildings, but also for the
refurbishment of existing buildings. The
technical equipment is complemented by
commercially available sensors and actuators
and, on the field level, by valves and
temperature sensors as standard components.
