TR1020 TwinCAT PLC Basic Class (4 days)

The PLC Basic class is designed to be an introduction to TwinCAT’s IEC 61131-3 programming environment.

Day 1
  • Course Overview
  • What is TwinCAT? (System at a glance)
  • Primer: TwinCAT modes of operation
  • How to find, scan and configure a 'box' (rack)
  • How to check each I/O Terminal (free-run mode)
  • Introduce TwinCAT System Manager
  • What is TwinCAT's supplement?
  • Introduce TwinCAT PLC Control
  • Project: Writing Simple Code
  • Introduce other programming languages
  • Project: Writing Simple Code in other programming languages
Day 2
  • Discussion of programming with Function Blocks
  • Project: Up-Down counter with indicator lamps
  • Discussion on ‘Time’ (how we annotate ‘time’ in T/C)
Day3
  • Overview of Function Blocks and Functions used in calculations
  • Project: Write a project using multiple languages, Functions and Function Blocks
  • Using TwinCAT ScopeView
  • Discussion concerning Beckhoff Information System (InfoSys) and how to use it
Day4
  • Trouble shooting a TwinCAT system
  • Project/Lab: Trouble shooting
  • Task Configuration: Tasks and intervals, Programs and Program calling (instantiation)
  • Exam: Open book test on all topics covered during the week
