Studying while collecting professional experience

Here at Beckhoff, we have always recognized the importance of encouraging and growing young talent and providing training. We really are committed to providing young people with the best possible support they need on their journey to a successful professional future, which includes opportunities to work on exciting innovations and contribute their ideas right from the get go. To this end, we offer practice-integrated study programs in four different engineering degree programs at the Gütersloh campus in cooperation with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences: Mechatronics/Automation, Industrial Engineering, Digital Technology, and Software Engineering. Alternatively, if you are already studying at a university or technical college, we can also offer you a wide range of opportunities to gain your first experience in the world of work in the form of internships, not to mention plenty of inspiration for research papers, projects, and theses.

Work-integrated studies at Beckhoff Germany

If the idea of an exciting, future-oriented study program appeals to you and you'd love the opportunity to combine the academic side of the course with real, hands-on experience, then you're the perfect candidate for our practice-integrated study program. We work in partnership with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences to offer four practice-integrated engineering courses at the Gütersloh campus. All study programs run for seven semesters over 3.5 years, with each semester comprising a 14-week work term with the company followed by a 12-week academic term at the university. This structure provides you with the opportunity to gain relevant work experience at our company while you complete your studies. Just imagine being able to channel your ideas into developing high-tech products and new technology, programming our in-house automation software and intelligent systems, and even designing company processes. We welcome 25 to 30 young people to this study program every year, and virtually all of them are taken on as permanent employees after completing their studies in the standard time and graduating with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Work-integrated study programs

In the work-integrated Mechatronics/Automation program, you learn how to develop and apply the latest technologies. You work on real projects in your future deployment field (e.g., systems engineering, support, hardware development, or software development). You automate high-tech machines, develop ultra-fast PCs, or participate in programming our automation software to control machines, robots, and wind turbines. Together with the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired at the University of Applied Sciences, you will be perfectly equipped for your professional future.

A wide range of tasks awaits you in the practice-integrated Industrial Engineering degree program, which comprises the sales, export, technical project management, production planning and management, and logistics sectors. Typical activities in these areas include handling technical projects, developing market strategies for high-tech products, providing individual consulting to customers, and planning and managing production or logistics processes. This is where your business acumen and organizational skills will come into play. During your studies, you will acquire a broad spectrum of knowledge in business and technical sectors. Depending on your remit and interests, you can choose to specialize in technology/automation or logistics during your studies.

Software is becoming increasingly important in the age of digitalization and Industry 4.0: automation, digitalization, and communication would be impossible without software. In the practice-integrated Software Engineering degree program, you will learn to design and implement new software as well as to adapt and reuse existing software. As a software engineer, your expertise will be wide-ranging. You will develop databases, user interfaces, and new functions such as image processing, robot controls, and services such as engineering in the cloud, or you will take care of IT system security. As a software engineer, you will work in software development, application programming, or product management.

In the work-integrated Digital Technologies program you learn how software makes machines, robots and entire production systems more intelligent. It focuses on the development of software modules for the acquisition, analysis and use of large amounts of data. To build such modules, you will employ statistical and mathematical methods as well as artificial intelligence in addition to your expertise in automation and information technologies. You will also learn how to integrate the software modules into control solutions to build things like self-learning manufacturing networks. After completing your studies, you will work as a software developer, application programmer or product manager and develop innovative solutions for tomorrow's intelligent production systems.
