Four new, powerful EtherCAT Terminals complement the product range

Incremental encoders have become indispensable in many applications – often they are small and inexpensive. Beckhoff have extended the EL51xx terminal series for analysis of 5 V incremental encoders with RS422 and TTL signals with the aim of implementing incremental signal analysis within the control system in a space-saving and cost-reducing manner.

Four new, highly compact products complement the existing portfolio, based on the latest technology. Each EtherCAT Terminal features an integrated sensor supply that can be parameterized for 5 V, 12 V or 24 V and offers compatibility with RS422, 5 V TTL and open collector encoders. Based on internal pull-up resistors, no external wiring is required for open collector analysis. Additional 24 V digital inputs can be used to save, lock and set the counter value. High-precision EtherCAT distributed clocks (DC) facilitate synchronous reading of the position value. In addition, a wide range of integrated functions enable the support of further applications directly in the terminal, e.g. rotary axis function, workpiece measurement and standstill monitoring.

EL5102

The EL5102 EtherCAT Terminal is an interface for the direct connection of two incremental encoders with differential signals (RS422) or single ended signals (TTL and Open Collector), parameterizable per channel. Input frequencies up to 5 MHz can be processed. Two additional 24 V digital inputs are available for storing, blocking and setting the counter status. It is also possible to set the counter to a predefined value or to lock the counter directly through the process data. The error message output of an encoder can be connected and evaluated via the status input. The 5 V, 12 V or 24 V supply of the encoder can be provided directly via the terminal connection points.

EL5112

The EL5112 EtherCAT Terminal is an interface for the direct connection of two incremental encoders with A and B track or one encoder with A, B and C track. Encoders with differential signals (RS422) or single-ended signals (TTL and Open collector) can be connected. Input frequencies up to 5 MHz can be processed. In 2-channel mode, one 24 V digital input per channel is available for storing, blocking and setting the counter status; in 1-channel operation, both inputs can be used. It is also possible to set the counter to a predefined value or to lock the counter directly through the process data. The 5 V, 12 V or 24 V supply of the encoder can be provided directly via the terminal connection points.

EL5122

The EL5122 EtherCAT Terminal is an interface for the direct connection of two incremental encoders with A and B track. Encoders with single ended signals (TTL and Open Collector) can be connected. Due to internal pull-up resistors, no external circuitry is necessary for Open Collector evaluation. Per channel a 24 V digital input is available for storing, blocking and setting the counter status. It is also possible to set the counter to a predefined value or to lock the counter directly through the process data. The 5 V, 12 V or 24 V supply of the encoder can be provided directly via the terminal connection points.

EL5131

The EL5131 EtherCAT Terminal is an interface for the direct connection of two incremental encoders with differential signals (RS422) or single-ended signals (TTL and Open Collector). Two parameterizable 24 V DC push-pull, tristate outputs are available, which are set after reaching a specified count, period duration, frequency or speed value. This enables an exact reaction time independent of the fieldbus cycle. Two additional 24 V digital inputs are available for storing, blocking and setting the counter status. It is also possible to set the counter to a predefined value or to lock the counter directly through the process data. The error message output of an encoder can be connected and evaluated via the status input. The 5 V, 12 V or 24 V supply of the encoder can be provided directly via the terminal connection points.
