Beckhoff Automation becomes OPC Hub ASEAN and founding sponsor of Industry 4.0 Scholarship at Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC 2019

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Beckhoff and partners from industry and higher education in Singapore

At the leading trade event for Industrial Transformation ASIA-PACIFIC 2019 in Singapore, Beckhoff Singapore was officially appointed by the OPC Foundation as “OPC Hub ASEAN” to serve as the primary point of contact in the region. Beckhoff will also be the facilitator between collaborative institutions, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic, to form a local community for the OPC Foundation in Singapore. The OPC Hub ASEAN appointment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Beckhoff and OPC Foundation in tandem with the “Tri-party Collaboration for OPC UA Promotion in Singapore” MoU signed by OPC Hub ASEAN, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic. In addition, Beckhoff has been announced as the founding sponsor of “Industry 4.0 Scholarship” for Singapore Polytechnic and the industry collaborator for Ngee Ann Polytechnic in automation and Industry 4.0 education.

On the 24th of October 2019, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place, which marks a new chapter of cooperation between Beckhoff and its partners. It was attended by Mr. David Chia, Managing Director, Beckhoff Automation Pte. Ltd.; Mr. Stefan Hoppe, President and Executive Director, OPC Foundation; and representatives from Ngee Ann Polytechnic – Mr. Russell Chan, Senior Director, Schools, Mrs. Lek-Lim Geok Choo, Director, Industry, Technology & CET, School of Engineering – as well as from Singapore Polytechnic – Mr. Loh Yew Chiong, Senior Director, Engineering Cluster; Mr. Toh Ser Khoon, Director, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Guests of honor at the ceremony were Ms. Frederike Beckhoff, Assistant General Management, and Mr. Klaus Bernzen, Product Manager TwinCAT Motion Control, both from the Beckhoff Automation GmbH & Co. KG headquarters in Germany.

In order to help extend the global market reach of OPC Foundation, Beckhoff Singapore was officially appointed as OPC Hub ASEAN and will coordinate activities on behalf of the OPC Foundation in the region. OPC Foundation is a global non-profit organization in which users, vendors and consortia collaborate to create data transfer standards for multi-vendor, multi-platform, secure and reliable interoperability in industrial automation. Mr. David Chia, Beckhoff Singapore, and Mr. Stefan Hoppe, OPC Foundation, witnessed by Ms. Frederike Beckhoff, Beckhoff Germany, signed the MoU. The objective of this MoU is to define responsibilities of OPC Hub ASEAN in its role to promote OPC UA Technology awareness and work towards supporting the interests of all OPC members in a neutral way. OPC Hub will facilitate the adoption and deployment of OPC UA products as well as the development of vertical market application guidelines for specialized industries. OPC Hub ASEAN, represented by Beckhoff Automation, together with Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic have also formed a collaboration to jointly organize, promote and showcase OPC UA technology and offer training courses, test-bedding and live demonstrations of OPC UA technology for the industries in Singapore. Ngee Ann Polytechnic has been appointed as the “Exclusive Host Institution“, while Singapore Polytechnic has been appointed as the “Application Center“ for the OPC UA Hub in Singapore. OPC Hub will support Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic in the training of assigned experts for OPC UA, provide marketing materials and necessary design of the assigned space for OPC Hub activities. Both Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic will work with OPC Hub to hold regular seminars to promote and showcase OPC UA technology in Singapore. The “Tri-party Collaboration for OPC UA Promotion in Singapore” MoU was signed by Mr. David Chia, Beckhoff Singapore; Mrs. Lek-Lim Geok Choo, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Mr. Toh Ser Khoon, Singapore Polytechnic. The witnesses for this agreement were Mr. Stefan Hoppe, OPC Foundation; Mr. Russell Chan, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Mr. Loh Yew Chiong, Singapore Polytechnic.

On the same day, Beckhoff Automation extended collaboration with local institutions to form industry-institution partnerships by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. The agreement between Beckhoff and Singapore Polytechnic is to officiate the “Industry 4.0 Scholarship“ offering for Singapore Polytechnic students. Beckhoff and Singapore Polytechnic will collaborate as parties of the Singapore Polytechnic Advanced Manufacturing Programme Partners Network to support Singapore’s Advanced Manufacturing (AM) initiatives. The collaboration extends to offering internship opportunities with Beckhoff to students, co-developing industry projects, technology transfer by Beckhoff to set up facilities in Singapore Polytechnic, co-creation of courses and training programmes and promotion of engineering education related to AM. Both parties have a mutual interest to build a pipeline of talent to ensure that Singapore’s current and future workforce are equipped with the skillsets and competencies to develop and manage Advanced Manufacturing solutions and to lead companies into the future of Industry 4.0. As a founding sponsor, Beckhoff will introduce Singapore Polytechnic’s engineering student talents to industries undergoing transformation by Industry 4.0 and give students opportunities to discover their passion and interest in such industries. Mr. David Chia, Beckhoff Singapore, and Mr. Toh Ser Khoon, Singapore Polytechnic, signed the agreement, witnessed by Ms. Frederike Beckhoff, Beckhoff Germany, and Mr. Loh Yew Chiong, Singapore Polytechnic. Beckhoff Singapore also officially announced the industry collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnic in automation and Industry 4.0 education. The parties will form a collaboration offering short courses to working individuals and end users in the areas of automation and Industry 4.0, sharing expertise, knowledge and information. Beckhoff will also offer an attachment program to Ngee Ann Polytechnic staffs and will provide internship opportunities and scholarships to the students. The MoU was signed by Mr. David Chia, Beckhoff Singapore, and Mrs. Lek-Lim Geok Choo, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, witnessed by Ms. Frederike Beckhoff, Beckhoff Germany, and Mr. Russell Chan, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
