Beckhoff Building Automation

Modular automation components

At the Light+Building fair in Frankfurt, Germany, Beckhoff will present its complete range of PC- and Ethernet-based control technology for intelligent buildings.
Beckhoff rounds off its building automation components with innovations and additional products from the fields of building, storey and room controllers, I/O systems for data acquisition and building software.

The versatile Beckhoff system offers integrated solutions for all trades:

IPC: Industrial PCs, Embedded PCs and Control Panels for control tasks, production data acquisition as well as operating & monitoring
I/O: modular I/O components (input/output) with Ethernet interface for logging and control of all data points in a building
Automation: PC-based building control, Ethernet controllers and TwinCAT automation software with comprehensive building libraries

Bus Terminals: The universal basic building block

With the Beckhoff Bus Terminal system, all sensors and actuators that are relevant for building automation can be connected directly. New Bus Terminals for the HVAC and lighting areas not only increase functionality and convenience, but, in combination with TwinCAT automation software, also contribute to energy efficiency. The DMX terminal completes the lighting control range: In addition to intelligent dimmer terminals up to 600 VA, all standards such as digital/analog, DALI, LED control and PWM (pulse width modulation) are supported.

Maximum flexibility through PC Control

PC-based control technology enables all building functions and function changes to be realised based on software. This means maximum flexibility and low engineering costs. The comprehensive TwinCAT building library covers all main building functions. The new TwinCAT HVAC library contains more than 70 function blocks for automation of heating, air-conditioning, ventilation and sanitary installations. The TwinCAT library simplifies engineering significantly.

"Configuration instead of programming" is the motto of the TwinCAT Building Automation Framework. The engineering and commissioning of medium to large-size projects are simplified considerably. System integrators, operators and building users can carry out changes of scenarios or the assignment of sensors/actuators effectively.

PC-based building services also enable the introduction of web-based systems. As a further innovation Beckhoff will present WSD technology (Web Services on Devices) from Microsoft, a new standard for Ethernet-based plug-and-play for domestic appliances and building equipment.
