The EL5031-0011 is used for the direct connection of an encoder with an EnDat 2.2 interface. The bidirectional interface enables automatic reading of position values, diagnostic data, internal and external temperature values, and the electronic nameplate of the encoder. The EL5031-0011 is characterized by the fact that the position values for finer resolution are processed according to the oversampling principle. An encoder supply of 5 V – or optionally 9 V – is also provided. Extensive functions enable both cost-effective and faster commissioning.

A conventional EnDat2.2 interface registers a position value with each PLC cycle and passes it on to the higher-level controller in the next fieldbus cycle. The EL5031-0011 reads the current position value at several configurable and equidistant times between two fieldbus communication cycles with an adjustable whole number multiple (oversampling factor: n) of the cycle time. The transfer of a packet of n position values of 48 or 32 bits each to the higher-level controller takes place in the next fieldbus communication cycle. The minimum sampling time here is 25 µs (40 ksps). Notable application areas of the EL5031-0011 can be found in the field of high-resolution position measurement with in-line or end-of-line measurement systems, especially in automated manufacturing processes.
