GigE Vision cameras for precise quality inspections and product tracking

VCS2000: industrial cameras with up to 24 MP resolution and highly flexible mounting options
VCS2000: industrial cameras with up to 24 MP resolution and highly flexible mounting options

The Gigabit Ethernet area-scan cameras use color and monochrome CMOS sensors with up to 24 megapixel resolution to generate high-quality image material for machine vision. A wide portfolio of established Sony sensors with 3.45 µm and 2.74 µm pixel pitch is available for different vision tasks and image analysis functions. With their high frame rates and rapid 2.5 Gbit/s image data transmission, the GigE Vision industrial cameras are ideal for automated visual inspection tasks and precise product tracking in EtherCAT-synchronized applications.

Industrial cameras with IP65/67 protection rating

These robust, industrial-grade cameras with an IP65/67 protection rating can be used flexibly over a wide temperature range. The lens protection tube with thermally hardened anti-reflective glass ensures the invariability of the focus position and offers extremely high resistance to cleaning agents and general handling without the need for additional housing. Well thought-out mounting options and the small installation depth in the optical axis make for exceptional freedom of machine design.

High-performance industrial PCs for image data transfer at 2.5 GBit/s

The high performance parameters of the industrial cameras require powerful industrial PCs and fast transmission media so that the high-resolution image data leads to fast reactions in the process. These requirements are optimally fulfilled by the PC and EtherCAT-based control technology. Beckhoff Industrial PCs with 2.5 Gbit/s LAN make ideal central control units for machines with a vision application, as they are capable of handling large amounts of data thanks to their:

  • powerful CPUs and multi-core architectures
  • numerous LAN ports
  • transmission speeds of 2.5 Gbit/s as a new standard without additional hardware

What is GigE Vision?

GigE Vision is an interface standard for machine vision. It facilitates configuration and operation of industrial cameras. GigE stands for Gigabit Ethernet. By using the Gigabit Ethernet communication protocol, GigE Vision benefits from the following features:

  • default transmission rate of 1 Gigabit/s (extendable with 2.5 GigE, 5 GigE and 10 GigE)
  • cable lengths up to 100 meters without the need for amplification
  • use of standard hardware and software interfaces for Gigabit Ethernet

Advantages at a glance

Space-saving installation: the space normally required for connectors and cable bend radius is eliminated

Space-saving for flexible integration

In addition to superior image quality, Beckhoff Vision cameras also offer significant advantages in terms of mechanical integration.

Due to their low installation depth along the optical axis, these area-scan cameras can be installed in a space-saving manner even in machines with limited space. The side-mounted design of the connectors allows for optimized cable routing and prevents collisions with other components in the field of view.

In addition, the design allows for short cabling to adjacent illumination fixtures, which reduces installation effort and improves signal quality.
