
The EtherCAT-capable CU1521-0020 for Industrial Fast Ethernet/100 Mbit/s is a universal media converter that can be fitted with various SFP/SFP+ modules due to its SFP slot. The use of EtherCAT thus becomes possible via the most diverse transmission paths, depending on which SFP module is used. In order to ensure EtherCAT compatibility, only SFP modules approved by Beckhoff are to be used. The media converter works bidirectionally and collision-free with a constant delay and can be diagnosed as a self-contained EtherCAT device. As opposed to standard media converters, the CU1521-0020 therefore guarantees fast link control and thus a secure termination of the EtherCAT segment even in case of a fault. Since the transmission direction (copper to SFP, SFP to copper) is relevant for the bus, the device can be configured via a switch. "Link Loss Forwarding" can also be set for normal Ethernet operation via this switch.
