EJ5xxx | EtherCAT plug-in modules, position measurement

Fast counting as well as position detection by means of absolute or incremental displacement systems is indispensable in many automation applications. The EtherCAT plug-in modules of the EJ5xxx series offer the right solution for precise position, frequency, and displacement/angle measurement.

In terms of technology, the EJxxxx EtherCAT plug-in modules are usually based on the ELxxxx EtherCAT Terminal with matching name. This allows initial tests to be carried out with EL terminals, while the corresponding EJ module on the signal distribution board is used in subsequent series production.

Absolute position detection
They enable evaluation of linear and rotary encoders and measuring probes as well as position measuring systems and absolute encoders with SSI (synchronous serial interface). Many modules are equipped with an integrated sensor supply. Extensive parameterization options allow all standard sensors in both single-turn and multi-turn versions to be connected and evaluated.

Incremental position detection
The EJ5xxx modules can evaluate incremental signals with differential signals in RS422, 5 V single-ended signals from TTL encoders and 24 V HTL encoder signals. Additional 24 V digital inputs are available for saving, locking and setting the counter value. EtherCAT's Distributed Clocks function ensures an exact synchronization of the position value with other processes.
