EJ5xxx | EtherCAT plug-in modules, position measurement

High-speed counting, along with position detection using an array of different displacement transducer technologies, both absolute and incremental, is an essential element of many automation applications. With the EtherCAT plug-in modules of the EJ5xxx series for position, frequency, displacement or angle measurement, Beckhoff offers the right solution for your precision measurement tasks.

In terms of technology, the EJxxxx EtherCAT plug-in modules are usually based on the ELxxxx EtherCAT Terminals with matching name. This allows initial tests to be carried out with EL terminals, while the corresponding EJ module on the signal distribution board is used in subsequent series production.

Advantages:

  • Numerous functions facilitate simple automation solutions even for complex systems.
  • The distributed clocks function enables exact synchronization of the position value with other processes.

Areas of application:

  • position, speed of rotation and velocity measurement
  • positioning tasks for motion control applications
  • piece goods counting

Absolute position detection
The EJxxxx EtherCAT plug-in modules enable evaluation of linear and rotary encoders and measuring probes as well as position measuring systems and absolute encoders with SSI (synchronous serial interface). Many modules are equipped with an integrated sensor supply. Extensive parameterization options allow all standard sensors in both single-turn and multi-turn versions to be connected and evaluated.

Incremental position detection
The EJ5xxx modules can evaluate incremental signals with differential signals in RS422, 5 V single-ended signals from TTL encoders and 24 V HTL encoder signals. Additional 24 V digital inputs are available for saving, locking and setting the counter value. The EtherCAT distributed clocks function ensures an exact synchronization of the position value with other processes.
