The basic components can be extended by TwinCAT 3 functions. The functions are classified into various categories. e.g. motion control, measurement technology, control technology and communication.

TwinCAT 3 CoAgent for Engineering is the intelligent AI assistant that provides efficient support for PLC development, I/O configuration, and human-machine interface creation. Requirements can be formulated in normal language and TwinCAT CoAgent for Engineering suggests suitable code and configurations, taking existing project structures into account. Flexible mode selection enables custom support based on the task at hand. In addition, TwinCAT CoAgent for Engineering offers direct access to the documentation in the Beckhoff Information System and provides context-related recommendations for accelerated high-quality project implementation.

The TwinCAT 3 engineering components enable the configuration, programming and debugging of applications.

Various EtherCAT Box modules are also available for system tasks such as media converters, junctions, power distribution, etc.

The EP3xxx modules process different analog input currents and voltages.

The EP3751-0260 EtherCAT Box module has an internal 6-axis MEMS sensor for measuring movements. The box module combines a 3-axis acceleration sensor and 3-axis gyroscope sensor that record acceleration and rotational movement in a very compact unit.

The EtherCAT plug-in modules reduce the wiring work and system installation time with standard machines.

The CX5200 PC series supplements the existing devices of the CX5100 series with more efficient processors and a modular construction.

The CX5240 is an Embedded PC based on the Intel Atom^® x5-E3940 with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz (quad-core) and 8 GB DDR4-RAM. The basic equipment includes two independent, Gigabit-capable Ethernet interfaces as well as four USB 3.0 and one DVI-D interface. A wide range of additional connection options or gateway functions are available thanks to the optional interface and I/O level, which can consist of either E-bus or K-bus terminals and can be fitted ex factory. In addition, a system module or fieldbus module from the CX2000 series can be plugged in via the high-pole connection on the left-hand side of the device. Although the total number of plug-in modules of the type CX2500-xx is limited to one with the CX5200 series, it is possible in this way, for example, to implement two further Gigabit-Ethernet interfaces or four further USB interfaces or a further fieldbus interface. Furthermore, the CX5240 is characterized by an internally electrically isolated power supply unit, built-in 1-second UPS, low power consumption and fanless cooling.
