HART field devices integrated simply: with PC-based control from Beckhoff

In this 30-minute webinar Benjamin Bruns, Product Management Ex and Branch Management Process Industry, explains the integration of HART field devices into the PC-based control technology from Beckhoff. Apart from communication via the HART protocol, a further focal point is the direct integration of field device drivers (Device Type Manager, DTM) via the FDT (Field Device Tool) container integrated in TwinCAT. In addition, the possibility to integrate Beckhoff control architectures in process control systems via the Beckhoff CommDTM is explained.

The EL3182 analog input terminal for HART-capable field devices supplies measuring transducers located in the field and transmits their analog measuring signals electrically isolated to the automation device. With a technical measuring range of 107% of the nominal range, the terminal also supports commissioning with sensor values in the limit range and the evaluation according to NAMUR NE43. The EtherCAT Terminal indicates the signal state by means of light emitting diodes. Error LEDs signal overload and wire breakage, in addition to which LEDs provide information about the state of the HART communication and signal any communication errors.

The ELX318x analog input terminal allows the direct connection of intrinsically safe HART-capable field devices located in hazardous areas classified zone 0/20 or 1/21. It supplies measuring transducers located in the field and transmits their analog measuring signals electrically isolated to the automation device. Overload and open-circuit detection are signaled by the error LEDs, furthermore LEDs inform about the status of the HART communication and signal any communication errors. The EtherCAT Terminal indicates the signal state by means of light emitting diodes.
