Olympic quality ice-rink conditions created with PC-based control

Precise and environmentally friendly control of the cooling process programmed using TwinCAT

Suomen Tekojää Oy, a family-owned company based in Parkano, Finland, uses PC-based control technology from Beckhoff to control and monitor ice-rink refrigeration systems in the arenas of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

Natural coolants play an essential role in the ice-making process, which is controlled by a CX5130 Embedded PC connected to a CP2916 multi-touch Control Panel. The precise and eco-friendly refrigeration process control was programmed by Suomen Tekojää Oy, which provides comprehensive solutions for refrigeration, air handling, industrial cooling, and heat pump systems, using TwinCAT 3 automation software.

TwinCAT HMI enables controlling, monitoring, and logging of all process data and offers customized views. As TwinCAT HMI is a web-based visualization software, the refrigeration process is monitored and maintained via secure remote connections.
